Walk a Mile in My Shoes

This experiment is most effective if you take it seriously.  While you are doing it, ask yourself these questions:

1. Would I have the PATIENCE needed?

2. Would I have enough COURAGE to still feel good about myself?

3.  How would I ADAPT so I could still have fun and do things? 

 

Tonight for homework your job is to do one of these activities again and do a normal activity at home.  Eat dinner with one hand or with your fingers taped together.  Try to play video games or put on your pajamas.  After you have completed a task think about what was the most frustrating part.  Answer these questions about how difficult this was.  Do you think you could handle being like this forever? Tell me about it.

Welcome Back!

Welcome back to school!

I hope everyone had a wonderful break.  We will be diving right into our curriculum for this semester.  We have a lot to learn in a short amount of time.  Our next unit will be "Flowers for Algernon".  It is a great short story about a mentally disabled man named Charlie Gordon.  He is selected for a trial operation to increase his intelligence.  Throughout the story Charlie has many changes and discovers new facts about the world.  It is a fantastic story and I cannot wait to start our reading!

Final week

The end of the semester is rapidly approaching.  Today the students will be taking their Outsiders Final.  The final draft of the personal responses are due Monday.  Over the last week students will be responsible for filling out a movie guide and turning it in by Thursday.  However, after the personal responses have been turned in, the students have no more homework for the semester.  Have a great weekend!
